Your Fitness Plan in Action
Get Your Sexy Back!
Almost daily we are bombarded with weight loss strategies . Despite the messages being replayed repeatedly, somehow it’s easier to stay complacent rather than take action.
Do these thoughts sound familiar? "I will start working out after I get back from my trip" or "I’ll begin after I get through this tough project at work." But, the "start" that was going to be today turns into tomorrow and tomorrow turns into next week and then next month. Before you know it, you have lost your enthusiasm (if you ever really had it in the first place) and never get around to starting.
There is a way to get out of this vicious cycle. My trick: STOP the cycle by thinking of what you need to do RIGHT NOW to get started on a more slenderized and healthier you.
It CAN happen, if you make a commitment that this will be the moment you make a permanent change. As you read these fitness steps, there will probably be an health activity or action that comes to mind that you can do right now to move to your slimmer and healthier self.
- Write down 3 things you could do RIGHT NOW to achieve your fitness goal.
- You shouldn’t have gotten to #2 if you didn’t write those three things. I’ll give you another chance now. : )
- Now that you have your list, under each numbered item, write down 1 person who will make sure you follow through with that action.
- Send an email or call that person RIGHT NOW and commit to yourself and to them. Make it crystal clear to your friend how important it is to you and how you want to be held accountable. Set a time and a place to touch base. I suggest daily (even if it is just for a few minutes) so you can stay on track.
- Now the final AND MOST IMPORTANT tip: Create Your Own Success Story. Picture yourself at a healthy weight. How would you feel? How would your clothes fit? What would you eat? What kind of clothes would you wear? What would you have the confidence to do? Grab a piece of paper now or open up a Word document and start typing.
Then cut some photos out of magazines that inspire you. Write as if you had achieved your ideal weight and fitness goals right now. Answer the previous questions and ask some of your own that captures and anchors what your life will look like when you are at your healthy weight.
Keep your health vision handy and revisit it daily. Keep a copy in your purse or briefcase. Send a typed version to your work and home emails. If you find yourself falling into old patterns, the first thing to do is STOP, take a few deep breaths and then revisit your success story.
And remember, the number on the scale does not define you. (And thank goodness for that because if we all had to walk around with that number on our foreheads, what a crazy world it would be!) Rather than using a 10 pound machine to decide your emotional state, let the healthy picture of you guide and motivate you to success.
