Boost Your Energy with 5 Simple Steps

Take the Challenge

We all have those times when we’re feeling tired and run down, wondering if our natural energy will ever return.

The good news is that energy will return—you just might have to do a few things more (or less!) to welcome your energy back.

Here are some easy energy boosters my clients and I have found to work wonders.

  1. Drink up! Dehydration can be one of the leading causes of fatigue. I have found that you should aim to drink half your body weight in ounces in one day. (So, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking a minimum of 75 ounces.)
Remember: you should drink more when you exercise more, too.
  2. Also try to drink your water between meals because drinkingmore than a few ounces during meals can impair digestion.
  3. Stop after 8 pm! Try to make sure your last meal is before 8 pm. Your body works during the night to repair your cells and energize you for another day. If you eat right before bed, the body is forced to use its energy digesting food instead of prepping your body for another busy day.
  4. Rev it up! If you are feeling blah, get outside and go for a 20 minute interval workout. Start out at a slow pace and gradually increase your intensity for a few minutes. When you are pretty much out of breath, slow down some until you recover and  then gradually speed up again. Continue alternating bouts of high intensity and low intensity. This workout triggers a surge of energy and adrenaline that will keep you going all day—guaranteed!
  5. Have a shot! The liquid form of wheatgrass is one of nature’s greatest gifts. The chlorophyll molecule in wheatgrass is almost identical to the hemoglobin molecule in human blood. Because of it’s similarity to human blood, wheatgrass increases the capacity to delivery oxygen and other nutrients to the body’s cells. It is highly effective in stimulating enzyme systems and energizing the body. Because it is nutrient rich, it can also hold off a late afternoon craving. You can find wheatgrass at many health food and speciality grocery stores.
  6. Smile! Just offering this positive gesture to someone canautomatically elevate your mood and spirit. A simple smileand hello can make all the difference in someone’s day (along with yours). How easy!
